So why are we sad
...and who's Joy?
I'm Mackenzie Joy! A fourth-generation artist born & raised in Southern California—where the sun is always shining, but life isn’t always easy. I graduated from Chapman University with my BFA in Graphic Design and a minor in Leadership Studies. After six years of unhappiness in corporate life, I launched SADJOY Studio—not just as a play on words, but as a testament to the power of choice.
Our namesake is rooted in my own journey of embracing life’s dualities. Loss and feelings of grief have felt endless and debilitating at times, but I’ve learned (& am still learning) to embrace my sadness and find joy too.
Torn between continuing my family’s artistic legacy and feeling an insane amount of impostor syndrome, I eventually realized the best way to honor my roots was to launch my own design studio. At SJS, we create for those who see life for what it is and choose to make something beautiful out of it anyway–because the best art, and the best brands, come from embracing it all.
